Unit 9 - British healthcare system

Most of time we feel well. We can play sports, go to work and enjoy our lives.
But sometimes we justi don't feel well.
Some people have medical insurance but most people can't afford it and rely on the National Health Servise, NHS.

If you can't get a doctor, there are two other NHS servises you could try.
The first is NHS direct This is the phone servise where a trained nurse will suggest the best way to tread.
The NHS also provides Walk-in Centres in more than 60 locations in Britain.

But many people prefer alternative medicine.
This can include many kinds of treatment using both very old and very modern techniques.

Spain and Britain we are near the sea.
We have a queen and king.

DIFFERENCES
In Spain we talk Spanish, and in Britain they talk British

In Britain they have a "London eye" and in Spain there isn't.
In Spain they popular sport is football and in Britain the popular sport is golf.

Unit 8-Computers in our lives














Computers are a very important part of our lives.
For many young people, playing computer games is their favorite way of spending spare time.
Computers are a very important part of most areas of my life in Britain: library, the police and in school.

The smart home is now a real possibility.
Many homes have got lots of televisions and several computers. That smart home will provide TV and internet sockets in every room so you'll be able to do what you want wherever you want.

Are computers taking over our lives? IN a survey,44 per cent of young people
between 11 and 16 said their PC was a trusted friend. Another survey found that people in Britain spend so much time on the phone, texting and reading e-mails that they no longer have time for conversation.What do you thing about that?

Unit 7 - Transport in London



Exploring Mars is going to be very exciting, but for now, it's easier to explore our own planet! In particular, London.
We're going to follow Freddie as he explores all the different ways of transport in London.
He's a television researcher and he's going to find out about all the different ways of traveling in London. 1.8 million people travel into the center of London by train every day.

The next part of Freddie's journey is on another kind of train called the Docklands Light Railway.
These are computer-controlled trains with no drivers.
The different kinds of transport link up pretty well but sometimes you have to walk from one point in the journey to the next.

People use lots of other forms of transport in London. Some people use boars on the River Thames to go to work.
There is one kind of transport that isn't very good in London and that's the car. They move very slowly because there is too much traffic.
The buses and taxis travel more quickly because they have got spacial lanes on the road.

Unit 6 - Maritime history


In England no town is more than 170 kilometers from the sea. So it's no surprise that Britain has a very important history of ships and the sea.
In Liverpool there is a great museum of maritime history. It's several ships in the docks outside.
Inside it shows what it was like to be on some of the ships.

Between 1830 and 1930 more than nine million people from all over Europe left from the port of Liverpool to start a new life in America or Australia.


One of the most famous shipping companies is Cunard. It's got the world's biggest cruise ship, the Queen Mary 2,witch crosses the Atlantic from Southampton to New York.
The majority of people do travel around the world by plane but ships are still very important for moving goods.

UNIT 5 - British horror histories

British Horror Histories
People like to be stared. They love reading horror stories and watching horror movies.
Some of the most famous horror stories were written by British writes
. One of them put two great horror
characters together when Frankenstein met Count Dracula. Count Dracula was a vampire created in 1897.

Bram Stoker got the idea for Dracula while he was sitting Highgate Cemetery in North London.
Sunlight fell on a crack in the lid of a tomb.
Dracula is so popular that visitors to London can go on a guided Dracula tour.

The vampire was not drinking Mina's blood. Dracula was holding Mina's face to a long cut on his chest.
The vampire turned his head. His eyes burned with a terrible red light.
Blood was dripping from his red lips and long withe teeth.
The vampire had already taken his meal of blood!

UNIT 4 - The law













The law

The most famous police station in Britain is New Scotland Yard in London., but there are police stations all over the country.
They've all got a blue light outside to show they are police stations.
For most people the police are the face of the law.
We visited a new police station in Lewisham, an area in south-east London. This is the custody room of the police station. A suspected criminal is being charged with a crime.
Next their take fingerprints to check the person's identity.

Next day he went to court. Here three magistrates listen to evidence from the police and witnesses.
They then decide if the person in guilty or not guilty.

The evidence that the police collect from a crime scene is analysed in laboratories like this.
They can examine and analyse material from the crime scene.
Fingerprints are a good of identifying people but DNA is more reliable.

Supermarket- Unit 3













The Supermarket

Supermarkets are an important part of daily life in Britain.
The five biggest supermarkets sell 80% of all groceries thats food and drink.
It's got nearly 2,000 shops in Britain and is the third biggest supermarkets in the world.
Two of them, Asda and Tesco, are also the biggest sellers of clothes in Britain.


You can buy sports equipment, bicycles, books, toys and games, CDs and DVDs.
The very big supermarkets are usually on the edge of towns and most people drive to them.
There are many more supermarkets now than 20 years old.

But not everyone likes supermarkets. Small shops in towns and villages are cosing because supermarkets can sell the same things cheaper. So people without cars have less choice.
Many supermarkets are open 24 hours a day and seven days a week.

Unit 2 Soap opera









The most popular British soap operas are Eastenders and Coronation Street.
There are popular dramas about the lives of ordinary people.
Many people are addicted to soap operas. They even buy soap opera magazines.
There are also web sites for all the main soap operas.

These have got information about the actors and stories from future episodes.
Eastenders is set in the east end of London and has been broadcast since 1985.
As well as showing everyday life in the village there are sometimes special episodes.

Unit 1 Scotland


There are four main regions in Britain, England,Northern Ireland,Wales and Scotland.
Scotland is in the north of Britain, it's famous for its lakes. Like many parts of Britain, Scotland has also got its own traditions. The instrument known as the bagpipes is also a part of Scottish tradition.

Sport is very important in Scotland.
There are lots of golf courses and each year in the Highlands there are Highland Games with some familiar events and some unusual ones.

There are lots of famous Scottish people. Most Scotland's income is from tourism.

UNIT 9 THE WEATHER

The weather is a very popular topic of conversation in Britain.That's becouse the weather changes a lot.
60% of all days in Britain are overcast,dull,grey and often cold.
When it rains, they say it's too wet.When it's sunny they say it's too cold.

The seasons in in Britain are fairly clear.Winter lasts Desember to Fabruary.
Spring is from March to May.
The summer months are June,July and August.
They the autumn is from September,October and November.

It's not surprising that Britain has got one of the most important weather centres in the world.
The trouble is weather changes very quickly and so nobody ever belives the weather forecast.

UNIT 8 READING

British people read a lot.They read books,newspapers and magazines.
And of course they read text messages on their mobile phone.

You can also now borrow CD's,videos and DVD's of films and television programmes.
Some libraries even let you borrow computer games.

The British Library is one of the word's greatest libraries.

UNIT 7 BRITISH SPORTS

At the weekend in Britain, millions of people take part in some kind of sporting activity.
The top level of the game is professional football in the Premiership.
We went to the training session with a premiership team from South Est London, Charlton Athletic.

Cricked is the main summer sport in Britain.Cricked is played between two teams of 11 people.

Tennis is another popular sport, especially in the summer after the famous Wimbledon championship.
Other popular sports are golf,swimming,cycling,keep fit and walking.

UNIT 6 ANIMALS

People love animals.
But some of the word's animals are in danger of extinction.
But the most serious thereat to animals in from man.
In some parts of the word people collect rhino horn of use in medicine.
Shark's fin soup in favorite in many restaurants.Chimpanzee and whale meat are popular whit some people.

The numbers of animals in some species is new very small ans they may not exist at all for much longer.
It started in Britain in 1961 and has now got a global network in 90 countries.
Here at Port Lympne Animal Park there are elephants,lions,African hunting dogs and many others.

Animal born in Britain are now back in the Congo and Gabon in Africa.
This is an Afican black rhino.There are only 3.000 wild rhinos and 200 in zoos.

UNIT 5 BRITISH HOUSES

Well,90% of the population live in towns.
There are lots of different kinds of houses.This is the kind of house you find in British towns.
Lots of people live in flats,especially in big towns and cities.

Houses in different parts of Britain can look very different.
There are lots of regional variation because builders use local materials.

A famous traditional staying is 'An Englishman's home is his castle'.
British people spend a loot of time and money on their homes and gardens.
British people are always trying to make their home into a castle.

UNIT 4 SHOPPING

People in Britain really like shopping.
In a recent surveys 56% of woman between the ages of 16 and 40 described shopping as their main hobby.They often go shopping every day!

They sell different thing like food,medicines and cosmetics,clothes and books.

This is Bluewater near London. It's the largest shopping complex in Europe with over 330 diferent shops and three big department stores.
There are also 40 bars and restaurants and a thirteen-screen cinema.

UNIT 3 SCHOOL IN BRITAIN

For most students in Britain, the school day starts between eight thirty and nine o'clock.
People travel to school using many different kinds of transport.
They cycle, they walk,they come in cars.

After two lessons there is a break.This is fifteen minutes when students go out into the playgraund to have fun after all that concentration!
There's usually times to play games,talk with friends.

The main subjects in the school timetable are English, maths and science.
It is also popular Then there's French or Spanish, History and Geography.
Students have homework every day.

UNIT 2 FOOD IN BRITAIN

Most schools in Britain provide hot meals and salads every day but many studients prefer to take their own lunch to school.

Sarah and her dad make her packet lunch.
Today she's got a tuna mayonnaise sandwich and an apple. Sarah's lunch is healthy.

A lot of chocolate, crisps, fatty foods and cola isn't good for people. But this foods are everywhere.
This is the part of an advertisement on British TV.

One schools in England helps students to eat healthy food with the Green Machine.
Green Machines have got lots of interesting snacks.
These students are enjoying their food and it's good for them too.

UNIT 1-BRITISH ROYAL FAMILY

This is the British Royal Family. This is the Queen of England.Queen Elisabeth the second.The Queens live in a palace in London (Buckingham palace).
The Royal Family's name is Windsor and they've got a castle in the town of Windsor near London.

Prince William and Prince Harry are the Queen's grandchildren. They are the sons of Princess
Diana
and Prince Charles.
Prince Charles,prince William and Prince Harry like to ride horses. They play a sport called polo.

A lot of people like to see the Royal Family so they often appear in public.
It is a difficult for the Royal Family to have private lives. Newspapers and television want stories about them.
